What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.

Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist.

The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.

The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind. Our terrorist hunters, skiers, mountain bike riders and housewives have found their best fitness from the same regimen.

 

Should I be in shape first?

We get this question a lot...

No. No. How about another one of those?  NO.

You do not need to be in shape prior to coming to DogTown.  You get in shape with us.  Let us share the triumphs with you. 

Saying you need to get in shape before coming to DogTown is like saying you need to clean up the house before the housekeeper comes over. 

How does that make sense? It doesn't! 

What is it going to be like when you come to DogTown? Awesome. 

You are going to be supported and cheered on and welcomed and you're going to be healthier, faster, stronger and ultimately...sexier. 

But the sexy comes just by walking in the door...so what are you waiting for?

 

What is Paleo?

DogTown CrossFit subscribes to the Paleolithic Diet.

However, we will give it a quick go...

The paleo diet is basically this : Don't eat anything that our Paleolithic ancestors would not or could not have eaten.   Simply, you can eat meat, fruit, nuts and vegetables.  What can't you eat?  Dairy, processed foods, grains and legumes.

Sounds hard?  Yes, well... slightly.  But you get used to it, and it makes you healthy and fitter.  Come into the gym and we'll talk you through it.

Why are you called DogTown?

At one point we were poised to open our CrossFit gym in Venice and wanted to pay homage to famous Venice/Santa Monica skateboard culture of the 70's.  

We ended up in Culver City, but we liked the name and we also LOVE dogs.   But please note, we are a strength and conditioning gym for PEOPLE, not for dogs!  :)  

Clients are more than welcome to bring their beloved pups with them as long as they come into the gym with a leash and have a friendly disposition towards other dogs.
